I’m Janet Kininmonth, a kiln‑formed glass artist living and working on the South Coast of New South Wales. Here, surrounded by ocean light and coastal rhythms, I create sculptural pieces that explore how glass can hold and transform the interplay of texture, colour, and organic form.
Through techniques like fusing, slumping, and cold working, I take raw sheets of glass and coax them into works that reflect the beauty of my surroundings. My practice moves between functional, wearable, and decorative forms, often finished with iridised and dichroic surfaces that shimmer like water in motion. Each piece is a balance of contrasts—fluid yet precise, luminous yet grounded—expressing my deep connection to both the material and the environment I call home.
Since founding In My Element Glass Design in 2011, my style has grown out of years of technical exploration and a lifelong love for the ocean’s hues, native flora, and the quiet drama of light filtering through glass. Whether I’m shaping coral‑like sculptures or minimalist bowls, I see glass not just as a medium, but as a living element—one that speaks through colour, form, and reflection.
I invite you to experience these works as more than objects: they are stories of place, shaped by hand and fire, and infused with the spirit of the South Coast.
