Elegant Iridescence
When I created Elegant Iridescence, I wanted to capture the moment a wave breaks along the South Coast. As the water folds forward, fresh sea foam lifts into the light for only a second before it melts back into the ocean. That brief shimmer has always fascinated me, and this sculpture is my way of holding it still.
I handcrafted Elegant Iridescence in my South Coast studio using white, clear, and iridised glass. These materials allow me to echo the purity and softness of sea foam without relying on colour. In addition, the curves and contours create a sense of movement, while the iridised surface adds a gentle rainbow sheen. It reminds me of the way sunlight glints across foam as the tide rolls in
Working with clear and white glass slows me down. It encourages me to focus on form, texture, and light. In this piece, every shape reflects the natural flow of water folding back into itself. As a result, the sculpture casts soft shadows and luminous highlights that shift throughout the day. Even so, it keeps a quiet simplicity that feels calm and connected to the rhythm of the ocean.
Elegant Iridescence is a meaningful choice for anyone who loves the coastline or finds peace in the movement of waves. It suits bright rooms, shelves, and centrepieces, and it adds a gentle sense of coastal stillness to any space. No two pieces I make are ever the same, and this one carries its own personality.
