Description
Coral Rainbow – Commission
I created Coral Rainbow as a special commissioned piece for a heartfelt Christmas gift. I drew inspiration from the vibrant coral gardens along Australia’s coastline. From the beginning, I wanted the sculpture to feel joyful and full of light. As a result, it celebrates colour, movement, and the natural rhythms of the sea.
I layered hand‑cut clear glass to form the coral shapes. I also added glass powders to create radiant rainbow tones. These colours echo the way sunlight dances across living coral, shifting from soft warmth to bright intensity. Because of this, the palette feels alive and full of energy.
Every part of Coral Rainbow grew through a hands‑on dialogue with the kiln. I arranged each layer with intention and guided the powdered colours into place. Even so, the firing process added its own magic. As the glass softened and fused, new patterns appeared. Soft gradients, bold transitions, and luminous depth emerged through heat and time. Consequently, the sculpture carries a sense of movement and spontaneity.
Although I created Coral Rainbow as a gift, it still reflects the expressive spirit behind all my coastal‑inspired work. Its palette brings warmth and optimism into a room, and its form invites quiet reflection. Whether it sits on a mantle, rests within a curated collection, or delights someone who loves the ocean, the piece radiates connection — to nature, to colour, and to the person it was made for.
For me, this sculpture celebrates slow craft and personal storytelling. Every curve reflects the coastal landscapes that inspire me. Every fused layer holds the intention behind the commission. In the end, Coral Rainbow stands as a luminous keepsake. It sparks delight, honours the season of giving, and brings a touch of Australia’s coastal magic into its new home.
