Description
The sculpture begins with layered sea‑green and warm tones arranged carefully on the kiln shelf. As the heat rises, the colours fuse into a smooth base that echoes drifting seaweed and sheltered kelp gardens. After the first firing, the fused sheet is placed on a stainless‑steel form and returned to the kiln. During this stage, the glass softens and drapes gently over the form, creating flowing patterns that reflect the quiet movement found in underwater hideaways.
I refined the form through this slow draping process, allowing the heat to guide each curve as the glass settled. Because the colours shift naturally during firing, they form soft transitions that mirror the layered textures of seaweed and kelp. As a result, the sculpture develops gentle contours and an organic rhythm inspired by the sea dragon’s peaceful coastal habitat.
Weedy Sea Dragon Garden Hideaway brings coastal warmth and quiet elegance to any space. Because its form is expressive yet balanced, it draws the eye without overwhelming a room. In addition, the sea‑green and warm tones create a soothing presence that suits both natural and contemporary interiors. Each piece in this series celebrates the beauty, movement and gentle mystery of Australia’s marine life. Ultimately, this sculpture tells a story shaped by colour, shaped by heat and shaped by the sea.
